Glen obtained a first class honours degree in Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, winning both the best project and best overall student prizes in his final year. Glen then worked as a Design Engineer in the field of off-road vehicles for Terex Equipment Limited. 

Following this, Glen completed a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Strathclyde University. His PhD project, under the Postgraduate Training Partnership (PTP) Scheme, investigated the crash worthiness of vehicle side impact beams. The PTP project, sponsored by Ford Motors, included industrial placement and Glen was primarily based at the National Engineering Laboratory (NEL), East Kilbride. The PTP scheme also included substantial training in business skills. 

Glen then entered the Intellectual Property profession, where he worked for a wide range of clients, small and large, in the fields of mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering. He has particular expertise in the fields of automotive engineering, the oil and gas sector and renewable energy technology. 

Glen has been involved in a high number of European patent opposition cases, which included attendance at opposition oral proceedings. Glen also handled a significant number of Trade Mark and Design cases. 

He has a particular interest in IP Management, to provide the best commercial and strategic advice to clients on building and maintaining strong IP portfolios. This has included a number of IP reviews and Audits for clients, some of which were carried out on behalf of the UK Intellectual Property Office. 

Glen also enjoys face-to-face interaction with IP Managers and inventors. He has given many IP presentations to clients, students, and groups of inventors. He has also written articles on IP for journals and newsletters. 

Glen became a registered UK Patent Attorney in 2005, a registered European Patent Attorney in 2006, and has recently become a registered Irish Patent Attorney. Glen joined HGF in 2007 to help build up the practice in Glasgow.
