Pippa has a degree in chemistry, specialising in synthetic chemistry, from Imperial College, The University of London. She carried out two commercial synthesis projects at Imperial College, during and after graduation, a pheromone synthesis sponsored by the Tropical Disease Research Institute (TDRI), and an insect antifeedant synthesis as part of an on going post graduate research group project. 

Pippa joined the patent profession on graduation and worked for ten years in-house, in the patent departments of three multinational companies, spending seven years in Switzerland and the Netherlands. During this time she qualified as a Chartered and European Patent Attorney. She also spent two months at the European Patent Office in Munich, assigned to a Board of Appeal and an Examining Board, as part of her qualification as a European Patent Attorney. On returning to the UK and joining private practice, she became a Director and Head of UK Patents for a York based company, continuing a full patent practice during this time. Pippa’s industrial in-house experience proved invaluable in understanding the commercial needs of clients and providing strategic advice. After ten years, she worked as a Freelance Consultant for two years, specialising in the fields of pharmaceuticals, polymer prostheses and chemical engineering. 

She has practised in a wide range of chemical technologies, including pharmaceutical, polymer, catalyst and also in mechanical and biological and biotechnological areas. 

Pippa’s years in private practice have provided her with a breadth of technical experience which is in valuable in multi disciplinary research projects, as well as giving a breadth of technical practice. From her years in Europe, Pippa speaks Dutch, French and German and is familiar with the patent profession and practice in Europe. Pippa now works as a consultant for HGF.
