Charlotte’s patent practice lies principally in the Life Sciences field. Areas of particular technical expertise include newbiological entities, e.g. protein therapeutics and antibodies, stem cells, immunology-based treatments including cell-based therapeutics, and medical uses and formulations, as well as research tools and DNA sequencing technology. Outside the Life Sciences field, Charlotte’s practice encompasses medical devices, wound dressings and nanotechnology.
Charlotte has considerable experience in the preparation of opinions and advises on commercial matters and contentious matters, including opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office. Her work includes providing advice in connection with due diligence exercises relating to mergers, financing rounds and exclusive licence deals.
Charlotte also provides guidance on commercially focussed matters such as issues relating to the marketing of pharmaceutical products, for example, Bolar exemptions in Europe and Israel, pharmaceutical lifecycles, Supplementary Protection Certificates, the authorisation of biogeneric products and data exclusivity. She is highly experienced in British, European and worldwide patent prosecution, the drafting of patent applications and patent portfolio management. Charlotte acts for a broad range of clients, including multinational pharmaceutical corporations, spin-out companies, universities and European and US biotechnology companies.
Charlotte studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, specialising in Immunology and Microbial and Parasitic Diseases. Charlotte commenced her patent career at Harrison Goddard Foote in 2001 and qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 2005.
Charlotte joined the partnership of HGF in 2009.
