Dominic primarily operates in HGF’s life science, pharmaceutical and trade mark groups, although his patent practice extends into other areas including: nanotechnology, chemical processing, materials, mechanical devices and green technologies. He has an extensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical, botanical and nutraceutical industries and has experience with plant variety rights and supplementary pharmaceutical certificates.
His trade mark work encompasses all aspects of the trademark protection process including: brand development, clearance searches, prosecution, opposition and negotiating co-existence agreements.
Dominic draws on his varied experiences to assist companies in creating and leveraging commercial value from their IP. This work includes undertaking IP audits and strategy reviews, developing and managing portfolios, and advising on intellectual property issues during corporate transactions.
As well as undertaking drafting and prosecution work he spends a significant amount of time advising on contentious matters, undertaking due diligence exercises and advising on corporate transactions, including in and out licensing.
Dominic particularly enjoys the challenges associated with fast growing technology start-ups, and SME’s and regularly presents IP workshops to a variety of groups and industries.
Dominic holds a combined honours degree from Leeds University in Biochemistry and Genetics and a Masters in Business Administration from Liverpool University. He has experience of running businesses, having founded EntrIPneur Limited, an IP and commercialisation consultancy, which supported and invested in a number of technology-based start-up companies in fields including: pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, computer software and engineering.
Dominic joined HGF’s Manchester office as a partner in May 2009.
