Tony’s professional interests are in the areas of organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, pharmaceuticals and the chemistry of nuclear materials. He has particular expertise in imaging technology and colour chemistry, resulting both from his educational background and his earlier career in the dyestuffs and imaging industries.
Tony entered the patent profession after a period as a senior research chemist with Yorkshire Chemicals plc studying new and improved textile dyestuffs. Subsequently, at Howson-Algraphy, his work involved the study of new and improved materials for incorporation into photosensitive lithographic printing plate coatings.
In 1986, he was promoted to technical information manager for the company, which was acquired by DuPont in July 1989 and then by Agfa-Gevaert in March 1998. In 1991, Tony was appointed patents associate and managed the intellectual property portfolio of the company. Tony established a relationship with Harrison Goddard Foote in 1996 with a view to achieving professional qualification as a patent attorney.
Tony qualified as European Patent Attorney in 1998 and joined Harrison Goddard Foote in 2000. In 2001, he qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and became a partner of the firm.
