Matt Dixon and Tom Farrand to join HGF

HGF are pleased to announce the arrival of Matt Dixon and Tom Farrand who have joined the firm as Partners in its Chancery Lane office to strengthen the firm’s presence in London and the South. Matt and Tom are both well known in the region for their work with CIPA and ITMA respectively. Their arrival comes at the end of another successful year for the firm who have consistently grown year on year.

Matt Dixon, Patent Attorney
Matt has a particular expertise in representing multi-nationals in multi-party Opposition and Appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office, as well as a passion for working with British high-growth technology businesses, particularly in London, Cambridge and Southampton, helping them to develop effective intellectual property strategies and negotiating successfully during acquisition due diligence.

Matt is a member of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, for whom he is Chairman of the Joint Business Practice Committee, Vice Chairman of the Press and Public Relations Committee and a member of the Parliamentary Committee. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of Nanotechnology Law and Business, the Advisory Panel of Ideas21, a not-for-profit organisation supporting British innovators, and is a regular speaker on intellectual property issues for business.

Tom Farrand, Trade Mark Attorney
Tom specialises in developing brand protection strategies for growing and ambitious companies that contribute to their business goals. He has in-depth experience in the clothing/footwear/accessories industry where his understanding of the inter-relationship between IP rights is key to the effective protection of brands and designs. Similarly, this understanding has helped clients in the fields of software and business/financial services and medical/pharma products.

Tom is a member of the Council of the UK’s professional body the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys; is chair of two committees; and is actively involved in education and training within the profession. Tom has been in the IP business for 25 years and was recently elected a Fellow of ITMA in recognition of his contribution to the Trade Mark Attorney profession.
